Before the Internet, the primary way for small business to communicate brand messages to the right consumer was through traditional marketing strategies such as print, radio, and television advertising. Today marketing concepts have evolved to cater to consumers’ ever changing taste in how they are exposed to brand communication. An important way of communicating brands to consumers is through blogging.
Many small business owners are currently blogging to support their business, but some are not convinced or have not taken the time to explore the benefits of creating content via blog postings. I had a client recently ask me if writing a blog would benefit his business. My answer consisted of only three words, “Yes, Yes, and Yes!”
Build a Reputation as an Expert
One way blogging helps a business is by building a reputation as an industry expert. Have you ever heard the expression, “sometimes you have give a little to gain a lot?” Give free advice to your readers, and they may seek you out for future services. For example, if you have a medical practice and give advice through your blog it helps build validity among potential future clients. Some topics to blog about could be healthy eating habits, nutrition tips, or home remedies to basic ailments, just to name a few. Create content consistent with your offerings and engage in conversations with your readers whenever they leave feedback. Then they see you as a good source of information.
Rank Higher in Searches
Blogging also helps customers find you online. Make sure your blogs have certain keywords in the title and the content itself to help your rankings with search engines such as Google. Additionally, post the blog to all social media sites your company has a profile for with backlinks to point them to your businesses website. The more relevant content you publish only increases the odds of customers finding your company when they are looking organically for products or services in your area.
Blogging is a way to grow a small business and all you have to do is write about what you already know. Communicate your brands message to a larger audience, and reach a few more potential customers.
